What makes a car confidence inspiring? Can it be boiled down to key design features such as which are the drive wheels or where the engine is? Even if these don’t control confidence, what impact do they have on that sense of confidence that builds in your gut? I’ve been wondering about this and how to take a subjective thing like the feeling of confidence and making it more objective and being able to compare that across cars. Here are my first thoughts on this including a review of the formula.

The Car Confidence Factor (CCF - I really need to figure out a catchy name for this) is my attempt at standardizing claims of how cars perform. It’s not super-scientific, it’s more engineered-guesstimate, however, I’m trying to take what reviewers say, and what I would think of a car, and apply certain factors to know how good it is. Check out my previous video on the calculation, this is about the driving route.
